On July 9, 2014 we celebrated our fourth year of exploration!
Over 118 features on NYC religions in 2014.
On that July 9, 2014 also we celebrated other NYC moments:
1776 George Washington orders that the Declaration of Independence be read to the Continental Army in New York City.
1858 Famed New York anthropologist Franz Boas born in Germany.
1868 African Americans granted full citizenship and everyone granted the right to due process of law in the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
1896 William Jennings Bryan delivers his “Cross of Gold” speech that excoriated Wall Street bankers and their “hard money” policies at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The New York Times went apoplectic, sneering that “under the spell of the oratory of the gifted blatherskite from Nebraska, the convention went into spasms of enthusiasm.”
1933 Columbia University neurologist Oliver Sacks born.
2011 Southern Sudan becomes a nation.
