Discover what people around the world think about abortion

Journey TV spoke with Professor Amy Adamczyk in 2024 about her research on passing on religious fiath in famiiles.

Following up her interest on faith and familes, she has done a huge cross-national perspectives on abortion.

That work has now culminated in a groundbreaking new book—Fetal Positions: Understanding Cross-National Public Opinion about Abortion, published by Oxford University Press.

Drawing on extensive research, the book integrates insights from dozens of expert interviews in the U.S. and China, a cross-national newspaper analysis, and survey data from over 200,000 people across 88 nations—representing the majority of the world’s population.

Fetal Positions not only explores why abortion disapproval varies so widely across countries but also examines the social and political forces shaping abortion rates and individual decisions. The book further analyzes the relationship between public attitudes and abortion laws while uncovering the ways in which both personal experiences and national contexts influence beliefs.

The first chapter is available for free, and the full book is accessible for just $29.95—an invaluable resource for anyone interested in global perspectives on abortion, and religion’s important role.
