Charles Dickens, the great chronicler of London culture, died on this day. He edited a Christian-orientated newspaper “Household Words” as well as creating some of the world’s best-known fictional urban characters, including David Copperfield, Ebenezer Scrooge, Oliver Twist, Fagin, and Miss Havisham. Dickens prepared by journeying the streets of London, covering more miles of London’s streets than any other person in history.
