Established in 1654 in New Amsterdam by Jews who arrived from Dutch Brazil, it is the oldest Jewish congregation in the United States.

Monthly synagogue tour August 12

Meet us at our side entrance on 2 West 70th Street

Individuals and groups are welcome to attend a free, guided tour of the Synagogue on the second Wednesday of every month at 5:45 pm (prior to Evening Services), led by Rev. Z. Edinger. There is a suggested donation of $5 per person, although any amount is appreciated. Tours generally last 45 minutes.

Private Tours

Alternatively, we do our best to accommodate private groups for a specific time or theme of focus at a flat rate of $150 per group, with a cap of 25 participants per group.

Public Viewing Hours
Wednesdays from 12:30-2:00 pm.

Public Sanctuary Tours
Free, docent-led tours of our Main Sanctuary are also available.

Private Docent Tours
Private group tours are available with at least two-weeks notice. Docent tours focus on the history of the communities that created Central Synagogue and the architecture of our landmarked Sanctuary building. If you have specific needs or requests, please make sure to let us know.
