NYC’s Reverend William Devlin waiting outside Turkish court that would free Rev. Andrew Brunson the next day. Photo tweeted from Devilin.

Reverend William Devlin is CEO of international humanitarian organization, REDEEM! and a pastor at Infinity Bible Church in The Bronx. The photo below shows Devlin on October 11th outside the courthouse in Izmir, Turkey. He attended every legal hearing of Brunson. The next day, Friday, the court ordered the release of the American pastor Brunson, ending his 24-month detention and allowing him to fly home. With the Turkish government’s demand hovering in the background that the United States turn over a Turkish dissident living in the United States, the Turkish court allowed spurious charges of spying and aiding terrorists to be lodged against the pastor.

Brunson pastored the small Resurrection Church in Izmir, a Kurdish part of Turkey. The Kurds want freedom to start their own nation, so the government is suspicious of anyone living among them. Brunson, 50, and his wife, Norine, lived in Turkey for twenty-five years. He was arrested in October 2016, accused of spying and aiding terrorists and sentenced to three years, one month and 15 days in prison. On Saturday at the White House, Brunson and his wife prayed for President Donald Trump. The pastor prayed for the President, “Lord God…, give him supernatural wisdom to accomplish all the plans you have for this country and for him..”

The pastor is part of the denomination the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, which counts as one of its members the Central Presbyterian Church in Manhattan and five churches in Brooklyn/
